Daniel Amartey is one of the emerging greats of Ghana football. He plays professional football for Leicester City in England as a defender and midfielder. Born in Accra on 21st December 1994, he first tasted professional football with the Ghanaian League side, Inter Allies.
A call from the national team managers came soon and in 2012, he joined the nation’s Under-20 squad, playing against sub-regional rivals, Nigeria, in his first-ever international cap. A year later, he was selected for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, but could not grace the occasion because it clashed with his infant professional career in Sweden.
By 2015, he had become a permanent fixture in the senior side, the Black Stars, and played in the Cup of African Nations held in Equatorial Guinea. He was again a prominent feature in the side during the 2017 edition of the tournament in Gabon. He, however, could not join his colleagues for the 2019 tournament because of injury. Between his duties in the English top-flight and the Ghanaian national team, Daniel Amartey is set to further burnish his reputation as a star on the pitch.
