There are two types of people in society. There are those who are gifted with eyes to see every wrong all time and harangue, complain and act indifferent towards the problem without lifting a hand of solution. And there are the darers, those who don’t just see the problem but work out solutions to solve that problem. Such people are not comfortable till they’ve extended a helping hand, and they only stop pushing when there’s nothing else to push.
Oheneyiri Gifty Anti is one of such people, she’s a darer and a shaker. She is an excellent journalist, broadcaster and the host of one of the most celebrated Talk shows in the country; The Standpoint, a program that gives a platform for the voice of women to be heard, and a gender activist and advocate, who has been one of the strong pillars of women empowerment in Ghana. The CEO of GDA concepts limited through initiatives like “The girl in need foundation” has pushed so many girls through higher heights in their education.
Seeing her shine now, it might be hard to believe that this ace broadcaster didn’t just glide on the highway to glory with honey oozing ceaselessly in her mouth. But the truth is, her journey to the top has had its own valleys and narrow moments. Gifty hails from Asempanyin in the Central Region of Ghana and the last of eight children. After completing Mfantisman Girls High school, she went into carpentry, which she jokingly calls the “wood industry” to make ends meet and later enrolled at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
The multiple award-winning journalist who started off her professional career as a floor manager on GTV’s Breakfast show rose to be host of the Breakfast show after her impressive output as floor manager. Having gained popularity and great reputation among many young people in the country while hosting the show for over a decade, Gifty quit GBC on December 31, 2013 to focus attention on her Gifty Dansoa Anti (GDA) Concepts Limited. She disclosed on Facebook that her resignation from Ghana Broadcasting Corporation after several years of dedicated service and hard work was not influenced by money as news from certain quarters of the media suggest.
GDA Concepts is the producer of popular TV talk show, The StandPoint; a TV program which deals with issues affecting women; social, political, cultural, traditional, health, and leadership. She has taken critical steps to change a lot of women and harness their potentials towards national development.
She has swept many awards in Ghana and across Africa including the prestigious 2015 Super Woman Award and has been the bedrock of many foundations including the Awo Dansoa Reading Project that has overseen the building of a library at Adumasa to grow the interest of children in reading.
