Yaw Osafo-Maafo is the Senior Minister under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. An engineer and banker by profession, Osafo-Maafo has been very instrumental in re- engineering Ghana’s economy for growth, having worked as the Minister of Finance under ex-President John Agyekum Kuffuor. Born in 1942 in Akyem Awisa in the Eastern Region of Ghana, the young Osafo-Marfo had his early education at the Awisa Presbyterian School before moving to the prestigious Achimota Senior High School for his secondary education. He later enrolled at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Between 1979 and 1992, he headed two major banks, the Bank for Housing and Construction, and the National Investment Bank and successfully helped in restructuring them. He has been a Consultant to the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the United Nations Development Program.
Osafo-Maafo also served as Chairman and a board member on several corporate entities, including Nestle Ghana Limited, National Trust Holding Company, National Development Planning Commission, and the Divestiture Implementation Committee among others.
In the area of politics, he represented the people of Akim- Oda as their Member of Parliament (MP). He also served as the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports during the Kuffuor administration.
