Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission of Ghana. He is a one-time General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Born in Ashanti Region of Ghana, Kwadwo Afriyie had his secondary education at the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School in Bekwai where he obtained his GCE Ordinary level certificate. He then enrolled at the Konongo Odumase Secondary School in Konongo for his GCE Advanced level certificate. He furthered his studies at the University of Ghana and then continued to the Ghana School of Law where he got his Bachelor of Laws after which he was called to the bar.

He entered into legal practice in 1981 and was appointed the head of legal services at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) during former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration. He was later made to act as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the corporation.

In 2010, he was elected the General Secretary of the NPP, a position he held until 2014.
